These days, there are lots of reasons why you might choose a dairy-free diet. It could form part
of your plant-based lifestyle, or center around your concerns about animal welfare, or simply
because you find a diet rich in dairy products to be hard on the old digestive system. Some
studies estimate that as much as 70% of the world’s population experience some degree of
lactose intolerance, many of us without even realizing it ourselves.
And contrary to popular belief, dairy foods aren’t the only source of calcium in our diets. Yes,
dairy is rich in calcium, as well as a range of other beneficial nutrients and vitamins. But foods
like sardines, broccoli and almonds are also excellent alternative sources of calcium.
